Phu Quoc travel guide
Practical tips from locals to plan your trip.
Best time to visit
Dry season runs from November to April with sunny skies and calm seas - perfect for island hopping. May to October is the rainy season: greener, quieter and cheaper, but boat trips can be cancelled on rough days.
Getting there
Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) has direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City (about 1 hour), Hanoi and several Asian cities. Ferries also run from Rach Gia and Ha Tien on the mainland.
Visa
Phu Quoc offers visa-free entry for up to 30 days for most international visitors flying directly to the island. Always check the latest rules before you travel.
Getting around
Grab and Xanh SM taxis are easy and affordable. Renting a scooter is popular for confident riders. For full days out, a private car or our guided tours is the most relaxed option.
Money
The currency is Vietnamese dong (VND). Cards work in hotels and bigger restaurants; carry cash for markets and small shops. ATMs are common in Duong Dong and the south.
Food to try
Fresh seafood at the night market, bun quay (stirred noodles), goi ca trich (herring salad), sea urchin, Phu Quoc pepper dishes and fish sauce, and sim (myrtle) wine.
